Master’s Students Quickly Acquainted with Intuitive TR2 Tripod Software

What is the most effective way to introduce students to incident and accident analysis? By discussing real-life case studies and conducting risk analyses using Kuiper & Burger’s TR2 Tripod Beta software. “The master’s students quickly became familiar with the intuitive software,” says Tomasz Ewertowski of Poznan University of Technology.

“I create case studies from well-known accidents or incidents, which students then analyze in small groups. They begin by building a chain of events, followed by identifying the causes and assigning them to different basic risk factors. Additionally, they map out preventive measures and their effectiveness. Finally, they prepare corrective actions to reduce risks and prevent recurrence. Your software seems very well-suited for my classes.” With this message, Tomasz Ewertowski contacted Kuiper & Burger.

Fostering Development

Ewertowski previously conducted extensive research into accidents and incidents, particularly in aviation and the OSH industry. Since 2017, he has been a lecturer at the Poznan University of Technology, teaching master’s students at the Institute of Safety and Quality. His goal is not only to share his knowledge but also to familiarize his students with the TR2 Tripod software. Each semester, 30 master’s students now gain hands-on experience with the software, aligning with Kuiper & Burger’s ambition to support young people in their development.

“Students were given scenarios of incidents or accidents that they needed to work through using the TR2 software. They found the BOWTIE section for safety management easier than the incident analysis using the TRIPOD section. This was more related to understanding the tools and drawing conclusions than to the software itself. It didn’t take long for students to get familiar with the program, and after just one introductory lesson, they were able to start practicing.”

Added Value

The students had to complete many steps in a short period, from determining events to prioritizing corrective actions, ultimately leading to an action plan. “Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time to gain more experience with the software. We will improve on this in future semesters. The tool is simply interesting and promising. Students gain added value for companies like Kuiper & Burger when they enter the job market.”
